|
Two hundred and forty five cases of prolonged pregnancy Which were more than two weeks after the expected date of confinement calculated by Naegele¢¥s rule, were found in 3,269 deliveries since Jan. 1966 till Aug. 1970 at the department of Obst. and Gynec.,Han-Il Hospital.
In order to compare prolonged pregnancy with term pregnancy, 245 cases of pregnancy of 38 to 42 week¢¥s duration were selected. The results were as follows;
1. The incidence of prolonged pregnancy was 7.5%.
2. Of prolonged pregnancies, the incidence was highest between 43 and 44 week¢¥s duration.
3. There was no relationship between age, parity, duration of labor, presentation and sex of newborn.
4. There was a threefold increase in induction of labor in prolonged pregnancies.
5. There was a threefold increase in the rate of cesarean section and it suggested that there was a greater incidence of cephalopelvic disproportion in prolonged pregnancies.
6. Newborn weight were proportional to the gestational age.
7. There was a twofold increase in newborn whose Apgar score was below 6.
